1이 모든 충성된 일 후에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 유다에 들어와서 견고한 성읍들을 향하여 진을 치고 쳐서 취하고자 한지라
1After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.
2히스기야가 산헤립이 예루살렘을 치러 온 것을 보고
2When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
3그 방백들과 용사들로 더불어 의논하고 성 밖에 모든 물 근원을 막고자 하매 저희가 돕더라
3he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.
4이에 백성이 많이 모여 모든 물 근원과 땅으로 흘러가는 시내를 막고 이르되 어찌 앗수르 왕들로 와서 많은 물을 얻게 하리요 하고
4So many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”
5히스기야가 세력을 내어 퇴락한 성을 중수하되 망대까지 높이 쌓고 또 외성을 쌓고 다윗 성의 밀로를 견고케하고 병기와 방패를 많이 만들고
5He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
